OK, maybe it is an interesting story.....First saw it at independent shop
servicing my Benz and my 85 Jetta TD. Mechanic told me about the owner, who
towed it behind his diesel motor home.....so, it lived in Florida for a
decade, and then was towed front wheels up for ten years mostly out west
and seldom actually driven....ending up rust-free when I got it. But it
did have towing brackets welded into the front bumper. I had to replace a
rear wheel bearing.

So, how did I get it? About 3 years ago the owner came down with leukemia,
had a few years to live, and sold it in favor of towing a new Ford Focus
with working air. Then he went off to Arizona to spend the rest of his life
in the sun. I spent about two years finding and fixing all the little
features that had been neglected, and had plans to graft on the turbo bits
from my expiring 85 Jetta TD. But in the end the 89 na ran so sweet and was
so balanced that I just sat back and enjoyed it. Next big project is
reviving the AC, but I haven't got around to it.

My Benz is the main ride because everything works and it is so comfortable
on long trips that the wife won't ride in the Jetta....even to get 40+mpg.
So the Jetta is my personal hobby car. Still looking for ways to make the
ride less harsh, but the mechanicals are SO DIFFERENT from the Benz that it
may never happen. ....Considered using it to tow the Benz and the wife.....
