[Vwdiesel] Northern Ohio dieseling

I'll lay money on a "pinholed" evaporator. Condensors are pretty tough and I went through a lot of hassle and money trying to convince a shop that EVERYTHING I'd heard and read was that the A2 evaporators were heavily prone to pinholes. Finally fixed it myself in about 2 hours or less and <$150 with evap, drier and o-rings.
I should just rent myself out and say I'll fix it for airfare, place to sleep and food. :-)

Yeah, I'll say super good as well Doyt.
had an A2 for years- it was the best car I have ever owned.
thers have had some FEATURES that by themselves were very nice, I really
ike the 1Z motor, the B5.5 handling, but pound for pound, the 1989 A2 was
asily the most reliable, user friendly, economical car I have ever owned
nd maintained. Sold it to a friend at around 360000 miles 'cause he needed
 reliable car.
he A/C is a breeze to work on, mail me when you're ready to dive in, I can
alk you through it. Start watching for a good buy on a receiver dryer too,
ou'll be changing that out if the system has no pressure. If it lived on a
owbar, probably a rock perforated the condenser or tubing to it.
'd buy another good low mile A2 in a second if one came up.

OK, maybe it is an interesting story.....First saw it at independent shop
ervicing my Benz and my 85 Jetta TD. Mechanic told me about the owner, who
owed it behind his diesel motor home.....so, it lived in Florida for a
ecade, and then was towed front wheels up for ten years mostly out west
nd seldom actually driven....ending up rust-free when I got it. But it
id have towing brackets welded into the front bumper. I had to replace a
ear wheel bearing.
So, how did I get it? About 3 years ago the owner came down with leukemia,
ad a few years to live, and sold it in favor of towing a new Ford Focus
ith working air. Then he went off to Arizona to spend the rest of his life
n the sun. I spent about two years finding and fixing all the little
eatures that had been neglected, and had plans to graft on the turbo bits
rom my expiring 85 Jetta TD. But in the end the 89 na ran so sweet and was
o balanced that I just sat back and enjoyed it. Next big project is
eviving the AC, but I haven't got around to it.
My Benz is the main ride because everything works and it is so comfortable
n long trips that the wife won't ride in the Jetta....even to get 40+mpg.
o the Jetta is my personal hobby car. Still looking for ways to make the
ide less harsh, but the mechanicals are SO DIFFERENT from the Benz that it
ay never happen. ....Considered using it to tow the Benz and the wife.....
