Yup, gassers are different than diesel due to the IP being "in the way". Even the non-AC bracket is different. It's just a lever type thing but I had to weld that up on mine when it broke. Couldn't buy new, couldn't find used and that was a LONG time ago.
Just ask James, you can weld up about anything. :-) I just recently had a wonkied out keyway in a drive shaft for a pice of equipment. Welded the shoulders up, loaded a 3/8 end mill in the milling machine and cleaned it back out. No lathe so I filed the edges back to the shaft dia. Did similar on an identical machine only it was a wobbled out, pinned, control lever. Ran a bead around both sides, drilled it back out and tada!
You might strongly consider welding it or finding a shop to do it for you.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Alternatot bracket for 1980 VW Diesel

My Rabbits alternator bracket broke on me over the weekend, so I need to find
nother one. Any one know if the AC mounting Bracket for a MK1 Gas VW is the
ame as the alternator bracket for a MK1 Diesel VW? Or do I have to look & hope
find a one of a diesel?
hanks,
ill Higdon
