[Vwdiesel] bad brakes on 2001 Jetta

I had a new one fail but that was because the other tech, at the dealer, wanted me to MASH it to the floor, first thing (basically dry). I never mash, rarely pump up and generally push a bit further than normal operation but do use a faster movement. Haynes book said to push faster in order to push any bubbles past any high spots that may happen.

Hi Andrew;
Your experience is way different than mine. I have been into Dead
abbit Rescue for about 20 years. Before I learned to pressure bleed about 4
r 5 years ago I think I had to replace a master cylinder at least one in
our times I used the pump it up and hold it to the floor method to bleed
rakes. We are not talking about catastrophic failure just the fact that
hen you are done with the job the master cylinder would slowly bleed down
s you were applying the brakes.

While that is feasible, it's not at all likely, IMO. Over the last 20+
ears I have bled numerous brake systems and hydraulic clutch systems by
tomping the pedal to the floor and never, not once, had it damage the
aster cylinder. If that ever were to happen I would count myself lucky as
'd sure rather have the master fail when bleeding the brakes than to have
t do so on a panic stop.

can get the piston to travel farther in the master cylinder than
usual, so the seal can encounter debris accumulated there and hardened
so it can tear the seal.
