[Vwdiesel] cam clearance

I just started hearing what I was hoping was a mis-firing injector rap when starting out in 1st and 2nd gear.  in my 1.9NA IDI engine with hydraulic lifters in the van.
 
I had heard this sound about 5 years ago and had the injectors tested, the nozzles were shot so they were replaced with new Bosch nozzles.
Since the sound I am hearing seems to be the same, I removed the injectors and sent them off to be tested, hoping I had a piece of dirt in one of them or something, but they all tested good.  $6 each test, good piece of mind.
So, now it looks like I must have a collapsed lifter and trying to find the mushy one may not be that easy.  The cam has to come out anyway and they are cheap enough, so I am going to pull all 8 and replace with new ones.  Now, do I have a new oil ring seal for the front of the cam???
I should have ordered one with the lifters along with a valve cover gasket, errr,

Zero.  The ALH has hydraulic lifters and so should be touching the cam.
After it has been run and lifters have pumped up it, then you will find
that you can depress the lifter away from the cam slightly before it feels
solid.  If any are spongy, they should be replaced.
