Not quite sure how you tell that the computer's been opened... I've opened at least 4 and since they just slide open, no way I can tell unless the screws are stripped out, or you see it's been chipped.
Need to do rear brakes on the pu as well here.
Finally found an ecu for the Passat, for $50 plus shipping. They had a good, front bumper reinforcement and absorber so got those along with the lower grille and mirror switch. Now to find time to make sure something didn't fry the computer BEFORE I jumpered power to the stop solenoid! Check the 109 relay, etc. Orchard and a little side work have all snowballed on me so I can't get anything done right now. :-P The friend I was going to have get it running, is burried and about 4 weeks behind so no help there either.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] some diesel content
I had an interesting thing happen to my a4 jetta recently.
t had been running oddly, sometimes refusing even to start
o I brought it to a mechanic I have used in the past as I
m not competent to repair computer problems. Long story
hort, the guy spent days trying to track down the problem
ith no success. Ultimately he replaced the ecu with a known
ood used one. Car runs great now, problem solved. Sort of.
e surmised that someone had been in the old computer chassis
nd had mucked about because to him it looked as if the
ase had been opened. He gave me the old computer and a couple
f days later I opened it up just for shizz and giggles. I found
bout half an ounce of water in it and stains from earlier
ettings! So I guess I'm off to track down the source of the
ater which I suspect has to do with a clogged drain from
he evaporator. My 80 diesel pickup has a new head, new arp
tuds and is back together. I just hooked up the exhaust and
'm now doing some brake rebuilding and improving by using
raided lines all around and going to the vented disks in front.
o, any suppliers u all especially like for brake items? I'm looking
o replace the drums shoes and slave cylinders in back as well
s new disks and pads for the front.
ne other item, I'm looking for wheel bolts approximately 33 mm long.
nyone know where I can find such an item?
eter
