[Vwdiesel] Parts compatibility?

If you're going to run without the tbelt cover a word of advice from the
pessimist.
When you have a slack day, with the engine running, throw shop rags,
wrenches, bolts, pop cans, and empty chip bags at the spinning timing belt
until it catches something and either tears, or skips enough cogs to crash
the pistons into the valves.  It's going to happen eventually, and this will
save you the aggravation of being stranded, the towing bill, etc. 
With the belt shield off it may be easier for you to inspect the belt, but
the same goes for any piece of road crap that circulates through the engine
compartment, be it stones, garbage, or other stuff.  On any vw I own, inside
the belt guard is impeccably clean, and I drive gravel every day- the rest
of the engine compartment usually isn't.  The shields work well.

I really don't mind not having the timing belt cover, mine was missing with
the injection pump and lines removed. I kinda think it looks better without
and easier to inspect things too. With some help from my neighbors machine
shop I can fab up intake and exhaust from the manifolds out.
