[Vwdiesel] Putting turbo on a na 1.6?

Stock turbo is easiest, will give 10psi regulated boost. External linkage
(KKK) is the only stock one you can adjust, to get less than 10, if 5 is
what you are after, however boost isn't the big issue you may think it is
regarding EGT. Fuel is everything, or max fuel when you are at full load.
If you want more power, just a turbo isn't really going to cut it without
more fuel unless you are already pouring smoke at full load..... so as
mentioned, an Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge is an essential for this type of
thing. Try to install the probe pre-turbo, shoot for a safe 1100 degree
absolute max under any condition temperature. There are no piston cooling
jets, and pushing it to the edge will just lead to it falling off the cliff.
That's been done before too.
A non-turbo pump is fine, particularly if you have things set up so it isn't
fueled to the nuts. The boost aneroid just limits fuel during non-full boost
conditions and regulates how quickly it comes back as boost builds, so if
you aren't overfueled to start with, it won't be too smoky. More fuel,
boost comes in quicker also, so it's a balance thing in that regard.
I have a non-turbo Bosch VE pump on a Peugeot 2 litre TD in an agricultural
application (crop sprayer), and it is just fine for smoke as long as I'm not
an idiot and mash the gas while off boost and low rpm. I've also got it set
up for max 1200 degrees egt under any condition, just so it can't get killed
by prolonged full throttle application such as when getting stuck, or trying
to avoid said stuckness.
Go for it, just don't expect too much extra power and you should be fine.

Hi Folks! I was wondering if there would be any issues putting a turbo set
up on my na? Just want something more out of what I have to get by until
the AAZ. Thanks!
