Hayden,

Good to hear all is well. The Giles pump is a work of art if you ask me. The
man knows his stuff. It really woke up my 91 EcoJetta. I know you are
running a 2.25" exhaust but if you want to wake up that diesel some more
step up to a 2.50" or even a 3" from the turbo back. It really will make a
difference.

Here is my Fuelly link, http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rat407/jetta this is
my current mpg I have been getting with my jetta driving it back and forth
to Seymour Johnson AFB where I go to the gym. It is 25 miles away and is
mostly 4 lane highway driving with about 5 miles of in town stop and go.

Nick

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Update on GTD Jetta

Well, I have been driving my 82 Jetta GTD for several days now so I thought
I would update the list. The Giles pump is really great especially in 3rd
and above. I am constantly bumping up against the waste gate so I need to
get my manual boost adjustor installed to bring the boost up to 15psi as
that is what I had the pump set up for. What amazes me is that I am getting
a super response from the injection pump WITHOUT producing a bunch of smoke.
In fact, I never exceed 500 degrees on the EGT and yet get great
acceleration. I may play with the fueling later but for right now, I am
going to leave it alone. I have the pump set to .90 mm with the idle at
about 900 rpms. I am having to get used to this engine as it gets a bunch
of its power in the upper RPM ranges unlike my old 04 TDI which had all its
power before 2500 rpms. I am currently running the CHD trans that I got
with the engine and it turns 2700 rpms at 68 mph (speedo shows 65 but GPS
says 68, typical VW speedo, the faster you go the more off the reading. GPS
shows spot on at 40, 51 at 50 and so forth). Oil pressure on the GTD seems
ok 1.5-1.8 bar at idle warm, 8 bar on start up, 4 bar at 2800 rpms cruising.
Oil temperature is 210-235 degrees F while cruising on a warm day, lower
while cool. I have a few things to chase down, a rumble/rattle/buzz at
certain rpms. But more importantly, I have a glowing turn signal light.
Symptoms are: light glows until you hit the turn signal, honk the horn or
set the emergency brake!!!!! My guess is a bad ground or
..? Suggestions
are welcome!!!! I am just doing my first full tank so not sure of MPG yet
but it seems to be doing really well. Paint is a rattle can job but looking
OK, I will get before and after pictures loaded up on my website soon so you
all can see what it looks like. BTW, those of you still driving these cars,
what kind of of MPG are you getting mixed driving, city or highway? Car is
fun to drive but I am still getting used to the short shifter that had to be
installed due to the TT down pipe and 2 ¼" exhaust system (which sounds
great with the turned down tip I put on it). BTW I am starting to call the
car "FrankenJetta" because of its mixed heritage: 82 Jetta Coupe body, 93
Golf GTD engine, front struts and brakes from 85 Cabriolet, rear disk brakes
from 88 Scirocco 16V, GTI door panels, GTI/GLI teardrop wheels, Corrado
front fully adjustable front seats, aftermarket overload springs, front
lower sway bar and a instrument cluster with tach from late 80's early 90's
turbo diesel. Eclectic to say the least. More info as I get more mileage
on the car. Hayden

ALSO anyone interested in a genuine VAGCOM Key-USB interface? I won't need
it anymore. Just hook it to your computer and download the latest version
of the software as the registration is in the device. $125?
