Hey all,
Another great product to use to clean up old diesel is Algae X. It is a
great product that a friend of mine let me know about. Here is the link,

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Tank Slime
Dave,
I let my Rabbit sit for about the same amount of time as you did, when I got
it running I had issues like yours, I tried to suck furl throw the filter &
no luck, replaced the fuel filter still no go. I pulled the access of the
tank and it didn't smell like diesel any more.I pulled the filter screen in
the tank and it was sludged up solid..If it'd been a pickup emptying the
tank I'd have taken it to the quarter in the slot car wash & cleaned it real
good. How ever I have a 4 door so dropping the tank is a big pain. After
draining the tank & wiped it out as good as I could, I cleaned the filter
screen, and ran the old fuel through some of the see through filters you can
use with a gas engine. Then I went to a truck stop & bought a jug of fuel
treatment that's designed for fighting "Diesel Sludge" I put the recommend
amount for a shock treatment in the fuel when I poured it back into the tank
and used the maintenance dose of the stuff for a year after. So far no more
problems, b ut I don't let the car sit any more either.
Bill
PS if any one in the Northwest Oregon or Southwest Washington are needs it I
have most of a gallon jug of the fuel treatment left

"Hi all,
A week or so ago I asked for Hagars no gauge tuning advice for an old
diesel Rabbit that I wanted to bring out of retirement. I got it started, it
idled nice, I took it for a little ride and then shut it off, and started
over and over again fine. The next day I tried starting it and it didn't
want to start again. I got it started that first time though, by filling
the pump with diesel purge and spraying wd40 in the intake.
The car sat for about 3 and a half years and the old fuel has just sat in
the tank all that time. I am wondering if that old fuel is the problem. Do I
have to drain it or is there an additive that I can add.
Thanks,
Dave"
