I have to unscrew, move laterally a bit and then turn upright and bring out a few inches over. I always attributed it to the car being hit before I got it (couldn't tell it's been fixed). I think I took the PS pump off and dropped it down the first couple times then found I could do as recommended, poke a hole, let it drain then move it over. Still have to force the PS hoses a bit out of the way but beats pulling the pump off every 5,000 miles!

Subject: [Vwdiesel] vw mk2 jetta TD oil filter removal
I have a 1991 vw jetta turbodiesel with A/C and power steering and big bumpers.
decided to change the oil and filter. I had to drive it halfway up some ramps
o gain access to the oil pan plug. I got the oil pan drained, and removed the
il filter, but.....I cannot get the oil filter out from between the front of
he pan, the front engine mount and the power steering lines. I even broke the
ower plastic gate on the radiator flap getting the filter wrench on to loosen
he filter. Do I have to remove the front engine mount or do I have to use a
ack on the engine to be able to get the oil filter out and in? Bentley does not
elp on this. Any ideas?
