50K miles ago we put all new front stuff in the pickup.  I've since replaced a tie rod end, ball joint and now a wheel bearing and struts.
  I think the joints were Mele, bearing was FAG, struts were Cofap.  I now drill and tap new joints for zerks.   Out of two on the pickup and two on tractors, one looked to have no grease, one was full, and the other two ranged from ok to minimal.

hello, i have the 90 passat with front end wobble, my mechanic and i decided the 
ie rod end and strut mount were at fault. as i plan my purchase from autohauz i 
m offered several upgrade options and wonderedif anyone has an opinion.for tie 
od ends i am offered pex or meylefor strut mount the offer is for febi, uro or 
eyle
he cost difference is several dollars per item. while i don't expect to keep 
he car pastthe end of the year as i am putting together a second passat wagon 
ith a turbo, i would like to use quality parts and wondered if there really is 
 difference. 
s a test i am going to replace the tie rod end first and drive the car, then 
eplace the strut mount, just to seewhat each items impact on the suspension is. 
roger, do u have a thread on alignment, so i can at least get it close prior to 
aking the car in for a proper alignment.
