[Vwdiesel] turbo conversion big improvement

Earlier this summer I added a used vw turbo to my 89 Jetta n.a.
diesel without changing the injector pump, and the improvement is
beyond my expectations. Acceleration in low gears is better.......
runs easy at 35, and even wants to speed-creep at highway
speed. Sounds less labored in all gears. Haven't made any mpg
observations. So glad our list leader suggested trying it.
Spent last few nice days (72 degrees & dry) addressing minor rust on
rear fender lip behind wheel, driver side. Used small Dremel grinder
to clean the paint bubbles to bare metal...... washed with zinc
phosphate...... applied Por-15 Filler and Seam Sealer (Por Patch) and
let it cure over-night. Sanded , used glazing putty, sanded, sprayed
primer-filler, fine sanded, repeated, color coated with spray can of
specially mixed and loaded paint matching my color code. Looks good
enough. Might wax the car this year for the first time in 10 years.
The car has 4 ice-gripping tires and my new Toyota Camry Hybrid
arrived equipped with high-pressure/low-rolling friction tires that
are NOT ice-grippers, so I intend to use the Jetta this winter
whenever the roads are in any way questionable. The new car is
turning in mpg figures between 42 and 56 mpg......and it only cost
about ten times more than the Jetta, which I got used. Last year I
sorted out the Jetta cold-weather starting issues, and with the new
battery, 5-W40 Rotella synthetic, and a freeze-plug electric heater
I'm good to go.
