[Vwdiesel] 2003 Golf ALT symptoms - any other possibilities?

 The new clutched Pulley is about $50, the tool is $29, you can do it yourself and you do not have to remove the alt.
 
to replace the 120amp alt. is like $300, no?
 
In my book, I would wait until the alt. failes.

Yep, I sure did.  It's really a tight squeeze.  Getting your arms up in
there and holding the thing still while trying to wrench it off is
ridiculous.  I gave up after fighting with it for 2 hours or so.
