[Vwdiesel] Too cold

OK, I live about 15 miles south of Hayden and MY Diesel ('00 TDI) is too cold.  I know that since this is Texas, that statement is not going to garner a lot of sympathy.  I.e. from James.  I do have a question, though, before I start doing something drastic.  Should the car be making enough heat to get the cab reasonably warm if it's 20 degrees F outside?  I have to admit to only rarely driving in those temps here in Ft. Worth and don't have a good feel.  I did look and make sure my vent recirculation door closes.  The car's old enough that there's a black snow of insulation through the vents so I thought that might be the problem.  It's not.  I felt the radiator hoses too and the top one isn't warm, so I'm guessing the engine just isn't getting warm enough to make heat.  I'm thinking that this is just the way it is and I can bundle even more, but if there's a way I can pick up a little comfort, that'd be kind of awesome.

The one time I wish I had a Dodge.  As much fuel as those things burn, I would haveto get some heat.  I feel like I'm battling global warming by freezing.

"Deal with it" is an acceptable response.  I just want to make sure it's performing optimally.  It'll be 105F soon enough.
