[Vwdiesel] 97 Passat Glow system

  FOUND IT!
  Started looking yesterday, called a dealer, got the service advisor "just a service advisto" and he didn't know so "call back in 15 and he'll ask a tech."  While I was waiting, I pulled the knee bar loose.  To do that beyond just loose, had to pull the center console, to get it, have to pull the rear/center console!  Cleaned those while they were out.
  Knee bar dropped enough to reach in between it and the dash.  With the relay panel dropped down, the fuse and relay were straight in front of me, plain as day.  Invisible from below!  Pulled the relay holder off the clip holder, did some testing and despite the contacts not even being pitted, the relay appears to be bad (have power and ground but no relay action).  Fuse is good.  Pulled it out of the clip bar too, broke the ears that hold it to that holder, while removing it.  :-P
  They're now very easy to get to.  I fed them through the rat's nest and they come out very nicely, just below the fuse panel.  Now I only have to remove the under-dash panel  (two screws) to get to them!  :-D  Relay comes in today.  Ugh, $70, ridiculous placement but the center console and boots are clean now!
  If anybody comes across a good set of black, shifter and p-brake boots in scrounging....  Mine have holes.

Up higher there is a relay (J52) with 180 on it that is the glow relay, it is fed power from S39, a fusible link I think.  red wire, white trace to S39 from batt, red wire leaving to the relay J52.

Burntley states there is fuse number is S125, a strip on left firewall according to bently.  I forget where exactly, too many vehicles, but I think that is a misprint, a holdover from the IDI days.

  Looks about like Dad's...  The lower, right, relay is really a jumper like the rear wiper on a Rabbit had, only in a relay case.  So where is your GP relay and fuse in that pic?

here's what I have, relay is directly above.  stupid kneebar on the canadian
versions, dunno if the US ones have that or not.
