[Vwdiesel] Current for Heated Seat?

Trust me, there would be no diesel vw's in my driveway driven by my wife if
there were no seat heaters. None, Nada, Nyet.
Her first car was an a1 Jetta gasser with auto. It was WARM. Toasty even.
The extreme difference in economy between her car and mine, an 82na Jetta
5sp, was entirely lost on her due to teeth chattering. It was better after
I discovered cardboard, and blocking off of the rad in -40, but still no
contest, she hated my car in winter. Heated seats in the 97 Passat that
replaced her Jetta made it tolerable for her, and heated seats have been a
deal breaker with every car since.
You could file this under advice from a happily married guy of 22+ years...
Happy wife, happy life man. No way round it. Get the heated seats. :-)

Don't think you could do this off the old 65amp alt, would need at least a
90amp alt. from the A2 or newer vw's I agree, heated seat would be better
for the wife then rear window defogger.

Great thread! Got me digging around the web and I found some heated seat
kits for <$60 for BOTH seats! :-) I may just have to do that on a car or
two. Might even do one on Dad's tractor seat for snow plowing!

Dunno about 1, but pretty sure the answer to 2 is variable current.
Actually, for #1, per this
hread<http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=7269&page=3> some andom guy
measured his seat at 5A. I assume that's at full power.
However.. IIRC leather vs cloth is different (leather has less power).

As the heat is turned up, does it vary the duty cycle, or does it vary the
current?
Thanks. The car is not here to measure it on, and if it were, I am too lazy
to run out and test everything (actually warming up from the last job).
