The insurance company really doesn't want your totaled car & will probably be more than willing to sell it back to you for a low salvage value. in my case, as near as I recall, they sold me my 2001 Focus ZX3 back to me for $750 & I fixed it for about $400 & still have the Focus but it is forever branded with a salvage title. I am speaking from my experience only. As to buying a minivan, I have never owned one except for a 1979 VW aircooled bus. I have heard Chrysler minivans have a bad transmission problem unless you can find a rare older one with a manual transmission. A Toyota or Honda minivan would probably be a good bet but get other members opinions & do your research.
