[Vwdiesel] Transmission

Hi Hayden;
	Big diesels love low RPM but I have found that running 1.6 VW diesels both N/A and Turboed that it seems that I can be over geared. Our little diesels are high RPM compared to big trucks or big Chevy , Dodge and Ford pickups.Exhaust gas heat in my 90 VW Fox 2 dr Wagon raises when I have my foot in the pump. I do have Water/Methanol injection which tames it some. I can run on the flats at about 75 without the turbo putting out enough boost to start the W/M injection. I'm running a 5 speed 9Q transmission from a 1.6 Quantum Turbo Diesel. It is slightly shorter than a FF in a Rabbit. I'm running 14 inch rims and actually dropped to a lower diameter tire than I thought I wanted and the engine handles it better. Tough headwinds or the big mountains call for using lower gears.

I have an FN with the .71 in it also. I have 100mm output shafts on my car now and I really didn't want to fiddle with changing those out. Plus the final drive in the CHD is bigger which with the .71 fifth will drop the highway rpm significantly.

I have an FN laying around with a 0.71 fifth gear already in there.
Saved it from my 82 Jetta TD when it rusted into oblivion. Does it have to be a CHD? Doyt
