[Vwdiesel] ABS light (2001 Golf TDi)

Does anybody have any bright ideas how to troubleshoot an ABS light without Vag-com?

I bled the brakes last year, the car has been sitting for six months, persistent ABS light and kind of crappy braking (but driveable)

I don't think I did a great job bleeding the brakes, although I did it carefully with the motive power bleeder, in proper sequence

I like the idea of pushing brake fluid *up* from the nipples toward the reservoir, like they used to do in the old days, but I haven't been able to find any evidence of anyone doing that successfully in a TDi

Does anyone know of a simple bulletproof method for bleeding all four wheels plus the ABS module?
