[Vwdiesel] still with the clutch

Nope.  Put another one right back in.  Supposedly, they're improved now.  I figured it ran all that time with one, it'll run that long again.  By the time it needs it again, we'll all be driving hovercraft like the Jetsons anyhow.

If you got rid of the DM flywheel, it may be good for way more than that!  :-)

That turned out to be
he key.  I broke down and called up Dad who drove down and helped out.  Still
retty hard, but having someone watching while the other was
oving jacks did the trick, eventually.
I try to be really self-sufficient and not make the retired guy crawl under a
ar, but the man's good.
e did suggest that I really should get married so I'd have someone available to
elp with things like that.  Thanks, Dad....
've not yet driven down the road, but everything engaged in the driveway, so
opefully I'm good for another 350k.
hanks for the advice and support, all.

inally, at this stage, a helper can be indispensable to help spot obstacles
hat may be causing the trans to not turn into place, or to help get it to go
hat last little bit.
Otherwise, it is one of those jobs that can slip together fairly easily if you
re lucky, and if you get it cantilevered wrong, can just be a royal pain!
Good luck!

worked on the car for hours tonight.  I got the transmission more-or-less in
lace, but it's not close enough to slip over the flywheel or bolt up.  It's
lso tilted about 30 degrees and I can't get it to turn.  I have the whole works
hifted as much to the front as I can get it trying to clear the subframe, but
t's still not working.  Anyone know the magic geometry?  As it is, I'm going to
ave to burn a vacation day tomorrow to work on it.  Already had to rent a car
wo days :(  Driving a subcompact Nissan for two days will incentivise anyone to
ix their VW.
I'm going to call in my big floor jack, which I loaned out months (years?) ago.
opefully that'll help a little.  Outside of that.......
