[Vwdiesel] no diesel, Type 1 Beetle distributor question

I have forgotten a lot about working with beetle motors.
finally about ready to try and start my 70 engine.
I have found a vacuum adv. dist. from another 70 bug I had many years ago and had replaced that dist. with a .009 mechanical advance one.
so, this is the one I am going to use on this project car.

My question is, when I put it in, it is sticking up above the holding collar about an 1/8th of in inch or so.
If I want to get it to sit lower, how do I do this?
Or, must I buy this shim washers to fill the 1/8" gap?
But, this seems to be for the drive shaft in the block, not on the base of the dist. or something.

maybe I am going nuts, it must not be seated all the way down, have to play with it some more tonight.
