[Vwdiesel] EGT and fuel tank

Well don’t really want to take the manifolds off so I guess I won’t try that yet. I run about 4-500 degrees cruising at 65 with about 7 pounds of boost so I guess I am in the approximate right range. The gauge went through several days of bouncing up and down not recording the correct numbers. The Autometer gauge has a really cheap plug that all the wires connect to. I discovered that not only was the plug loose, but so were all the wire connections in the plug so I did a bit of engineering with toothpicks to tighten up the wires in the connector and then taped up the connector on the gauge. It seems to be stable now so maybe it is reading correctly. I have also done some adjustments on the smoke screw. When I first put the car on the road, my power connection for my gauges wasn’t very good so the EGT was reading low so I thought I would turn up the screw a bit to up the running temp. I ended up turning it a full ½ turn. Anyway, towing my little trailer, the heat built too fast so I turned it back down to where it was when I got the pump from Giles in Canada. Doesn’t seem to effect the performance but my temps are down and I am no longer smoking out the cars behind me when I push down the go pedal. Hayden

They ARE marked different for green, yellow and red... Trying to remember if the pickup's is color coded... One that came with the Rabbit is but that was a NA engine... Hmmmm... I know the difference was 100 or 150 degrees F. Don't get to drive 65 around here much, you either go slower or faster usually. Your temps sound about right though. 55mph seems like it was around 350 to 450. The Dasher wouldn't hit 600 when I got it... There's likely a jump right around 65mph. @ 55 there's nothing to 1 lb of boost. 60mph starts to have some, maybe 4 psi so 65 should be 6 to 8 psi and I'd guess around 500F post, if I were to just throw a guess at it. Hotter than normal temps are generally a bad injector.
