Thanks Hayden, that's pretty much my line of thought too. They really don't want comebacks, can't afford to have poor quality, so they definitely try to have good things. Everything I've ordered from them in the past in the maintenance side of things has been fairly priced, and quite good.
Fix you're thinking of was the balance module chain piling up. My 05 sedan has been trouble free (the one running the tuning box I bought from you), despite having the complete kit on the bench ready to fix that. Back in the day, all these cars were considered a time bomb by the Fred crowd, just waiting to blow the chain, and lose oil pressure, so I succumbed to the hysteria, got the parts in anticipation of having to change it out immediately, which was more than 5 years ago... So far after 180000km, it's all good. The whale has 300k km on it, and the cam is done, but otherwise seems good. It will get an eberspacher coolant heater, and can you say skimobile? woohoo...

James, I cannot comment on the manufacturers directly, I can say that IDParts does try to stock the best parts they can find and you don’t often hear any complaints from their customers. I have ordered a few things from them over the years and it has always been top notch. Another thing you want to check for that car has something to do with the balance shaft. I don’t recall exactly what the problem was but there was a fix available either from VW or aftermarket. You may “have to” check Freds for that. Hayden

“If and when these preachers get control of the Republican Party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know. I’ve tried to deal with them.” Barry Goldwater (early 1980’s) “There are many men of principle in both parties in America, but there is no party of principle.”
“I do not know if the people of the United States would vote for superior men if they ran for office, but there can be no doubt that such men do not run."
“I cannot help fearing that men may reach a point where they look on every new theory as a danger, every innovation as a toilsome trouble, every social advance as a first step toward revolution, and that they may absolutely refuse to move at all.” Alexis de Tocqueville
