Hey Brian, I after much wasted motion, finally found the fix for this Hot oil pressure problem (on a 1.8 gasser). After spending tons of time replacing the oil pump, the rod and main bearings, and even the outer countershaft bushing etc etc, and rechecking the pressure with a gage after all that I only gained about 3 or 4 psi max, and was still falling off enough when hot to set off the alarm. I plasticgaged the cam bearing clearances, and found them at about 4 thousanths, which the book says is at the outer limit. I still suspected cam bearings, since I had already dealt with pretty much every other damn thing else it COULD be.. And the fix was to remove each cap in turn and very very carefully shave 2 thousanths of an inch off the flats under the cap where they mate to the head. Did the shaving (about an hour's worth of time) on a flat steel plate using 320 grit wet or dry sand paper, very carefully measuring with a digital caliper where the studs go through. (Don't get carried away, the aluminum comes off pretty quick.) I put it all back together and I'll be damned if it didn't jump up another 10 (hot) psi right there. It was enough to finally get the oil pressure problem solved. Best of luck, Doug Ferguson from Boulder Creek

Hi Hayden.hope things are cooling down for ya in TX.Did you ever finish the Red 69 bug. I am not sure I remember you saying you got it running and tested on long trips.mine is suffering from low oil pressure when hot, 10-15lbs is all I can get at 3,000 rpm, not 30lbs as it should be, 10lbs per 1,000 RPM
Next I will try swapping the oil pump, if that does not solve it, then I have to much slop in the main bearings, right??/
