I guess the PD head came here in 04 then.I do love the wagon.If I were retired and had the $$ I would order a 2017 Golf Wagon 6 speed TDI from the factory, go over and pick it up, drive around for 2 weeks and ship it home.But, wait, I must still be dreaming.
I know a few people that have done that to get a Mercedes Diesel they wanted. 6K seem a bit high, if he has paperwork for the pump re-seal maybe, timing belt on that motor should be 100K interval, so not sure why new timing belt at 250K.Good luck, let us know how you make out.
Glad you are OK.  That must be so scary to see that car coming at you knowing you can not get out of the way in time.

I am really glad everything is OK with you.  As a fellow Dallas/Ft. Worth driver, I well know the dangers of driving in this area.  I have even taken to getting extra insurance on my new car loans to pay them off if my car is totaled in an accident.  I am glad you found a replacement.  My guess is the prices are going to go up for the pre-2.0L cars as more and more of the 2.0L cars are removed from the market place.  I struggled with whether or not to keep my 2015 but made a decision to give it back when VW USA declared that no more diesel cars would be coming into the US from VW.  No cars means no trained mechanics at dealerships.  So the car goes back on the 28th.  I am driving my replacement now, a 2016 Jetta Hybrid.  Seems to be doing good on MPG but I won’t know for sure until my first fill up as it doesn’t have an average MPG for the tank, only for the trip.  Enjoy the car.  I will be VW TDI-less now but still have the Grand Cherokee CRD so I still have some diesel in my home.  Hayden
