Thanks for the heads-up on the possible engine damage, etc. after turbo
failure - I'm fully aware. Got lucky on this one as the bushing on the
turbine side failed and only dumped oil into the exhaust.
Car still ran fine, but was obviously low on power and was laying down a
smoke screen. She pulled over and shut it off when it happened, dad came to
get her, filled it with oil, and had her drive straight home.
The slop on the shaft allowed the compressor to hit the scroll, but there
were no pieces missing, just chowdered up both parts some.
I will definitely pull the piping andes for intercooler out to verify no
debris or pooled oil, but it should be good to go with a replacement turbo.
