A few common issues.  One is low gear oil level, it needs to be overfilled per the fill or 
check plug on the side of the housing.  If the level is at or below that plug level, it's 
too low:

Add some more oil through the speedo cable hole and see if that helps.  If it's been low 
for a long time, 5th gear can be damaged due to lack of lube.
Could also be a mis-adjusted or worn shift linkage, not too hard to identify the source of
