But rather than deal with pulling out the grill and bumper, I find it far easier to do it the traditional way or, by leaving all four wheels on the ground while dropping the engine & tranny onto a low wheeled dolly, and then raising the whole front end high enough to roll the engine & tranny out from under & out towards the front.

Still have my 85 Golf that I either have to rebuild the engine or swap it
out with a good used engine.
