1987 4000 Quattro

I am considering buying a 1987 4000 Quattro CS.  What problem areas
should I have my mechanic check?  It is a very low milage car, but it
is also a New England car so it probably has had a salty life.

Also, all my Audi owning friends tell me that they are reliable but
when they finally break, they can cost a lot to fix.  Any comments?
