Manifold stopper

Hello out there.  I need some help from anyone with a 2226cc 5, the
one that makes 110bhp (others could be the same, I guess).  I have
a question about the intake manifold.  When looking at the front
of the engine, the front right side of the intake manifold has a hose
and then a rubber stopped on it (going front to back).  Does you
rubber stopper have a hole in the middle?  Mine does, and I really
cannot tell if it is designed that way or accidental.  I would think
that the leak it is causing would be detrimental to something, but
then I'm not that experienced.  The hole is probably 1/2 mm in
diameter.  It has a fair amount of suction, but no noticeable difference
in engine idling when the hole is open or covered.
Can someone help me?
