This may be too late now, but the March 1 Canadian Black Book lists the
'88 90 Quattro at $11,200 (wholesale) for "average" condition.  The car
you looked at was probably an average at best, and right now Audis are
overvalued in the Black Book anyway (according to my VW/Audi dealer).  So
I'd say the car is worth no more than maybe $11,000 *LESS* the cost of
the repairs it needs.
