Re: Stereo in Coupe GT
I have AUDI 5000 '85. Last year I replaced the factory audi system
with ALPINE. Since I had planned to do this myself as a weekend
project, I shopped around looking for a system that wouldn't
make me cutting up new holes or widening standard ones.
Here is my system:
ALPINE Tape Deck
Coustic High Current Amplifier
ALPINE 3.5" Two-way Speakers
ALPINE 4" One-way Speaker
ALPINE Surface-mount Tweeter
The last two on the list are actually one package. I put the 4" speakers
and tweeters in the back. Since the standard rear speaker is 5.25", I had
to make the hole smaller. I made an adapter out of particle board. The
front speakers fits well in the standard holes. A lot of my friends
thought that the bass wouldn't be good since my car interior volume is
quite large and the biggest speaker installed is 4". However, the result
is unexpectedly wonderful! I didn't expect it would be this good! The bass
is very solid, the midrange is very dynamic (thanks to the two way front
speaker), and the high frequency range is soft.
The owner of the store I bought the stereo from has an AUDI 5000 '84. He
had put this system on his car:
Coustic CD Player
Coustic High Current Amplifiers to drive 8 Two-way speakers
Coustic High Power Amplifier to drive 12" sub-woofer
The speakers are all ALPINEs
The quality of the sound is super. He had spent more than $2000
on that system! After installing my system, I brought my car over his
store and compared mine with his. He, himself, was very surprised to
hear the quality of my system. Of course mine wouldn't ever beat his,
but it comes very close (He agreeed to that!) and especially, when you
comapre the price! I only spent a total of $800.
So, having smaller speakers don't mean that you get bad sound!
