Re: Tuneup costs (was:: internal caliper brakes.. part 2) Date: Fri, 12 Jun 92 15:55:41 PDT From: "John Gong" <jgong@us.oracle.com>
I've recently started to do the routine tuneup stuff on my Quattro Turbo.
I used to pay $295 plus parts (actually a good price compared to an Audi
dealership). Now I just do it myself. Plugs and fuel filter and clean the
K&N airfilter. Only takes 1-2 hours max and the parts are even cheaper
mailorder vs shop parts prices. I figure I save $300-350 every time I
tune it up (15k mile intervals). Plugs can go a 6 months to a year and I
change the trans and diff fluids every year or so. The only real nasty
part is the air filter. Need to remove the passenger side headlight on
both the Turbo Coupe and the 4000CS Quattro to get at the air filter.
Even with the headlight out, the filter on the Turbo Coupe is almost
impossible to get in and out due to lack of clearance between the top
of the airbox and the sheetmetal immediately above. :(
It's till worth the $300+ savings though.....
