Re: Ur
The "Urquattro" refers to the original Audi quattro body style, based
on the early-style square-bodied coupe, with flared fenders and the
Audi four-ring insignia on the doors. This car was produced between
1980 and 1990, but has seen the engine power increase from 200hp in
the early versions to 227hp in 1989 when the 20V turbo from the 200
quattro was adopted.
The car was imported to the U.S. between 1982 and 1985, but due to
emissions requirements the U.S. cars were detuned to 160hp.
Although there are quattro versions of virtually every model Audi
makes, the "Urquattro" is considered by many to be _the_ Audi quattro,
since it was the very first, and the one that started the AWD revolution
in world rally championships.
I have only seen the "Ur" nomenclature used on German car magazines.
