84 5000S Struts

I just had new front shock put on my 84 5000S last week. I purchased the OEM versio   
version Boges. The mechanic told me that the ride would be SLIGHTLY firmer
with the Boges. Suffice it to say that this is NOT the case. The car handles
much better now (I still need to have a front alignment done since the mechanic
told me that the car had to be driven for a week before doing the alignment), b   
but the ride is awfull! Does anyone know wheather these shocks need time to br    
break in before loosening up? As it stands now, every expantion joint on the hig   
highway is an adventure :-)
