rough idle and check engine

Much thanks for all the suggestions for the correcting the rough idling 
problem and check engine light.  I just got my hiccuping baby (87 5000 cs 
quattro) out of the Doctors Office and he is running fine. :)  The 
prognosis was a faulty "VW DECELVALVE" $75.48.  The diagnosis also 
indicated that the Control Unit is also faulty.  However, since the car 
is running normally at this time, I have elected not to have 
neural-surgery, but instead, to be on the alert for this $800 ECU gem to 
go brain dead.    Thanks again for the help.  Fahrvergnuegen und
