Re: HELP Audi 4000s pwr door locks

1. (door locks). Since the locks work ok from inside the car but not from the
outside, the logical thing to suspect is either the door handle or its
connection to the lock linkage. Sorry, but it sounds like you ought to take the
inside trim panel off and take a look. The instructions in Haynes are a little
better than in Bently for this procedure, but if you have neither --

	a. remove screw holding trim piece at front of glass
	b. remove screw on front leading edge of door (from inside, with
the door open. Its just below bottom of glass
	c. remove screw on trailing edge of door (from outside, with door open)
	d. pry off cover of door handle (the part you pull to close door from
inside) and remove 3 screws. remove handle and remove remaining screw.
	e. remove lock handle (inside)
	f. using a screw driver and much delicacy, pop the trim loose on bottom
and sides (little plastic expansion buttons hold it into holes on the metal
	g. fumble with trim panel, fumble with trim piece at front of glass.
That little piece is a pain (it too eventually pops out but only after it clears
obstructions). You are allowed limited cussing here.
	h. lift main panel up and out. remove wires from window etc. controls
(assuming you car is not 84-85). Hope yours is labeled as well as mine
	V = vorn = front
	H= hinten = back
	L= links = left
	r = rechts = right

2. Speedometer

If speedo and odometer both stopped working at the same time, suspect the item
common to both, namely the cable from the transmission to the instrument
cluster. BTW, to get at instrument end of it follow these procedures:
	a. disconnect from transmission
	b. remove horn button (pull hard at each of the 4 corners -- make
sure to test when replacing) and disconnect little wire
	c. remove steering wheel (remember position it should be in)
	d. remove 2 screws on top edge of instrument cluster
	e. pull cluster out gently (there are a bazillion wires so be gentle)
