All I can say is "Ditto, Ditto, Ditto...".  I am having the exact
same problems with my '83 Ur but I have yet to get around to
repairing it as you have.  Thanks for the info.
Btw some previous owner tried to repair the wiring and did an awful job.r

Also I would like, before I depart this world, to talk to
the German engineer(s) that designed the alternater mounting
system for this car and lack of accessibility thereof!  I honestly don't
know what they were thinking of!  Maybe the whole car is built
up around the alternater? Sigh!
