Audi put in a shift lock to calm owners. This 'problem' has been reported in
other makes of car as well. It was never a problem with 4000s, coupes (GT) or
5000s with manual transmission. I test drove the coupe when I was looking in
82. I was deciding between the coupe, 4000 and scirocco. I picked the 4000 for
four doors, but preferred the coupe for handling.
