I think these are all good topics and questions.  I would like to make an
additional suggestion, just some more food for thought.

I belong to the z-car list, as my other four wheels are attached to a 74 260z,
which currently sits on my side of the garage and absorbs all my spare cash in
new parts and tools.  Anyway, about a year ago, the z-car list members took
the list archives and created the FAQ basically by categorizing and editing
the several years of list message traffic.  Topics are things like:

Overview
Brakes
Body (z's are notorious for rust)
ignition
exhaust
cooling
oil
v8 (a common conversion on z-cars)
rearend
storage
turbo (mostly about adding turbos)
stereo

Of course, the Audi list would have its own collection of topics, things like
the hydraulic system come to mind as areas that might warrant their own 
topic.

Information organized like this or in some similar way is incredibly useful
in tapping the knowledge of the list -- much more useful than going through
mail folders and text extracts.

Perhaps we can augment the existing FAQ using this, Alasdair's and others ideas!
