Oil Consumption = ZERO

Recently I posted to the list about a problem I was having with oil consumption on my 1986 5cyl Audi 90 (80k miles). It was using 1litre every 1000 miles - I can now report that I have managed to move down to NO oil consumption.

My particular problem came to a head when consumption of oil started to rocket (1litre every 250 miles) smoking was evident also when pulling away from the lights, the longer it idled at lights the more smoke.

My local mechanic replaced the valve stem seals with spectacular results :-)

His theory was that being a low mileage car, it had suffered plenty of short journeys - this screws the valve stem seals. The seals he took out were almost brittle, whilst the new ones were much more compliant. I'm begining to think valve stem seals are a major player in peoples oil consumption problems .. any comments?

Maybe I can now switch back to Mobil1 .... on second thoughts I'm going to stick with the regular dinasaur oil.
