Re: Source for lifters/valves?

Are you sure this noise is not the cam driven vacuum pump? (I'm assuming that
your motor has one). My vacuum pump is going bad, and acts ands sounds like
   lifter noise.... Just a thought.....

Cam-driven vacuum pump? Really? (Not that that is as outrageous an affront
to one's sensibilities as, say, my old Lotus Europa which had a cam-driven
alternator [well, there was no room "up front" for it, so they extended the
exhaust camshaft out the back of the head, and hooked up this monster pulley
to it...], but I'm really surprised that Audi would miss an opportunity to
hook some sensors up to several relays, used to drive a multi-stage electric
vacuum pump, possibly even timesharing the cruise-control vacuum-servo pump
via an even more complicated arrangement of electrically-switched vacuum
valves . . .)
