Funny, I've been wondering the same thing about the differential locks.
I only bother with them to plow through heavy snow in a parking lot,
otherwise, I prefer to have the ABS on.  Curious what others have to say.

As for a comparison with FWD, my Golf never spun on snowy roads, my '88
5000tq has (under "gentle" acceleration).  The most noticable advantage
on snowy roads has been off the line acceleration.
