Re: Hydraulic pumps

WATCH OUT WHEN BUYING REBUILT PUMPS AND MAKE SURE YOU GET A DECENT WARRANTY !

I got a rebuilt pump from a local dealer for around $300 in Feb 93
(the car is 86 5000 TQ). In May 93 it was leaking at halfs (where the
two halfs of the pump are attached) and the dealer gave me another one.
In Dec 93 it starting making noise but the dealer insisted it was nothing:
they would replace the pump only if the noise was audible from inside the car.
In Feb 94 the noise *was* audible from inside, and they gave me the new pump
which, knock on wood, is OK so far. Come to think of it, maybe it would be
better if it failed before Feb 95, which is when the 1-year warranty expires
(with each replacement they reset the 1-year warranty counter).

The real bad news was that when I took off the noisy pump, it was full of
tiny metal pieces (surprise, I wonder where the noise was coming from), so I
bought a new filter, flushed the system twice, and am holding my fingers
crossed that the rack didn't go while it had the metal junk coming through it
at 200 bars.
