I may have some bad news for you.  Apparently, this same thing happened to my
'88-90Q just before I bought it.  The previous owner had it replaced at the
dealer.  The switch was $238.  Can you believe that?  Maybe you can, eh? ;-)
Anyway, dunno if it's fixable, but it will serve you WELL to shop around, IMO.

Take a stab at fixing it...if you're successful, write an entry for the FAQ.
If you're not, you needed a new switch anyway.
