Re: strange electrical problem, revisited
As I recall my '83 UrQ, there are 3 outputs from the ignition switch...
One is "ignition" and is +12 in either "Run" or "Start" position. Computer,
etc. all run directly off of this feed, no relays involved (just some in-
triguing runs of wiring loom).
Another is "Start" and is +12 only in "Start" position. Pretty self-ex-
planatory.
The third is "Run" only, +12 in "Run" and off in either "Off" or "Start".
This feeds (directly) the headlight circuit and the load-reduction relay
to indirectly power non-critical accessories like wipers, heat/AC fan,
etc.
It sounds like you are missing both "Run" and "Ignition" voltages, which
kinda implicates the switch itself (and also implies that when you "jumper"
+12 to the coil, you are feeding the rest of the car's electrical system
through the jumper (and coil wiring harness...) so be careful! You melt
that wire and you will have a MAJOR job on your hands!).
Failing that, you are probably facing a f**ked fuse panel.
Of course, it's probably just a bad crimp connector on some major 10g feed
wire...snicker...
Good luck.
