engine stumble question

Here's one that someone might be able to shed some light on. I have an '81 Coupe
with 93k miles. In general, the engine runs very well and very smoothly.
Lately, however, there's been a bit of "stumble" when accelerating from idle.
It has nothing to do with the clutch. In fact, if I let the car idle in neutral
(at about 1000 rpm) and gently depress the accelerator, just as the tach needle
begins to move up, it suddenly makes a quick drop to about 700 rpm then back
up. This stumble happens about 50% of the time. I *think*, but am not yet sure,
that it is more prevelent when the radiator fan is running.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rob
