AutoWeek/A4 Article



I received AutoWeek 11/21-27 yesterday.  They had a preview (for those in the
states) of the A4.  Great looks, although the rear looks a little like the MB
C-Class.  Anyway here are some of the details.  If anyone wants more, just
ask questions.

-  "looks longer, but actually 1 mm longer" (176.3 inches); 1.5" wider
-  Wheelbase has been lengthened - .25" on FWD (103"); .5" on Quattro
-  Track is 2" wider in front; .5" in back
-  Nearly 100 pounds lighter than Audi 90
-  Steel body panels
-  New suspension:  "four-link front suspension" instead of MacPherson struts
-  Engine options:  174 hp 2.8 liter V6
                               150 hp 2.6 liter V6
                               125 hp 1.8 liter I4 (20 valves)
                               150 hp 1.8 liter I4 (20 valve Turbo)*
*  150 HP@ 5500 RPM; 155lb ft of torque from 1750 through 4600 RPM!

-   Top speed 165 MPH; 0-60 in 8.3  (FWD w/1.8T engine)
-  Optional "sport suspension" in works; lowers ride .75"

-  S4 to be introduced at next fall's Frankfurt Auto Show
-  Future body styles:  four door sedan (initially), wagon, coupe, cabriolet
(all by end of 1996)
-  German MSRP:  DM43,900 (US $29,266)
