Re: Fuel Range Indication -Reply
Just wanted to put in a quick $0.02 on the fuel consumption sender. When
I bought the '88 5K TQWagon, I managed to get a couple hundred $ from
the seller because it didn't work. Apparently he had someone replace the
computer recently as well. Well ... not being shy about getting my hands
dirty, with a Bentley in my hand I looked into the problem. There is a
variable resistor connected to the airflow sensor that provides the fuel
consumption info to the trip computer (and apparently is used nowhere
else in the FI). I opened up the airbox and managed to get some resist-
ance change by playing with the wiper, forcing it against the resistance
element (all of this was done blindly since I didn't have a mirror & lamp).
The fuel consumption started working; it reads high, but closer. (I
wish I was getting 37.8 MPG on the freeway!) My friend in the parts
department told me that the resistor is not available by itself. When I
have a chance, I plan to get a better look inside and see if I can make it
work better. I'll let you all know when that happens.
